Alfred Cockerill walked to Northampton as a 16-year-old with just one shilling in his pocket. He went on to make a fortune.
When speaker Bob Farey started researching Alfred Cockerill, the more he discovered the more he wanted to know. He is now trying to spread the information in the hope that Northampton will recognise all the good and generous deeds he did for our town as up til now, unfortunately his generosity has never been acknowledged.
Alfred was a prominent freemason who made his fortune from farming and market gardening and then used his wealth to promote structural, social and sporting initiatives in Northampton.
