Summer Stroll at Rawhaw Wood

July 19 @ 10:00 - 12:00

Free

Rawhaw Wood is a small Ancient Woodland just west of Corby and for many years Hugh Ross and Carolyn Church have lived and worked there, maintaining a unique sustainable lifestyle.

Their income comes from managing the hazel that grows thickly in the wood. This is done by “coppicing”, cutting down the new hazel growth which is used for a variety of rural crafts including making hedges and wooden furniture.  They also produce high quality charcoal for barbecues and used by artists for sketching.

This is an opportunity to be shown around and learn about Hugh and Carolyn’s amazingly different world. Bring the family for a leisurely close-up look at the flowers and insects that are found in this unique habitat in mid-summer.  The walk is free but there will be a chance to purchase charcoal and other products. If you wish, bring a picnic and stay on for a chat.

Numbers are limited and booking by email essential so that they can contact you just before the walk to confirm all the details.

It is one of a series of events being promoted by Rockingham Forest Vision – please follow this link for details and booking   https://www.rockinghamforest.org.uk/events
