Northants & Rutland Open Studios is more than an art festival – it is an opportunity to explore hidden studios\, beautiful villages\, bustling towns\, country gardens\, galleries\, and creative spaces\, while meeting the artists who make our region such a vibrant place to visit. \nFrom painting\, ceramics\, and sculpture to textiles\, printmaking\, jewellery\, photography\, and glass\, every venue offers something different. Some artists will be opening their working studios\, others will be exhibiting together in shared spaces and galleries\, creating exciting opportunities to experience a wide variety of work in one visit. \nStart your journey at our free Central Exhibition at Lamport Hall\, running from 5th September – 3rd October\, Wednesday to Sunday\, 10am-4pm. Bringing together work from artists across both counties\, it is the perfect place to discover new artists\, plan your route\, and be inspired to explore further afield. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Northamptonshire Badger Group and suitable for young adults age 18-30. \nJoin the Northamptonshire Badger group to discover all about badgers\, including how to spot the signs that they live on a site\, their setts and how to survey for them. The event will start in the visitor centre with a talk on badger ecology\, followed by walk looking for signs of tracks\, trails and setts. This walk is a Nene Valley Mammal Youth Group event which has been set up to inspire young people to learn about mammals and take action to protect them. This badger walk is for young adults aged between 18-30 only. \nThis badger walk is a Nene Valley Mammal Youth Group event. The group has been formed to inspire young people (Aged 0-30) to learn about mammals and take action to protect them. Young people will be able spend time outdoors\, meet like-minded people\, and develop their skills to become citizen scientists and active conservationists. The group has been set up in response to\, and with\, local young people who have a passion for nature and is part of the local network of the Mammal Society\, Britain’s leading charity devoted to the science-led conservation of mammals. \nTickets are £6 per child for this event\, which will be donated.

Visitors can expect live music\, traditional performing arts\, martial arts\, interactive activities\, creative workshops and authentic Japanese food\, all under one roof. The festival’s main stage will host a varied programme of performances throughout the day\, led by Japanese singer-songwriter MION. With a career spanning more than 10 years\, MION has performed extensively across Japan and internationally\, combining heartfelt lyrics with dynamic\ncompositions.\nJapan Fest favourite LeLe will also take to the stage\, performing music in both English and Japanese. Her eight-year career has included appearances across the UK\, Australia and Japan\, with performances designed to create an immersive and inclusive atmosphere for audiences.\nTraditional Japanese music will be represented by Sumie Kent\, whose expressive koto performances showcase the delicate sound and intricate techniques of one of Japan’s most iconic instruments.\nLeicester Taiko will bring the powerful rhythms of Japanese taiko drumming to Northampton. Led by Kate and Sam\, the group combines cultural tradition with modern rhythms to demonstrate the energy\, precision and excitement of taiko. \nINTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES\nThroughout the day\, attendees can take part in a selection of hands-on Japanese cultural activities. Visitors can experience the elegance of traditional Japanese clothing with a kimono try-on\, create their own Japanese-inspired design through fox mask painting\, and discover the\ntraditional art of origami.\nBeginner-friendly Japanese language sessions will introduce visitors to useful everyday words\, phrases and pronunciation while exploring some of the cultural context behind the language. These activities are designed to give visitors of all ages an accessible and engaging introduction to different elements of Japanese culture. \nTRADITIONAL THEATRE & MARTIAL ARTS\nVisitors will have the opportunity to experience the history and artistry of Japanese Noh theatre through a performance by Sara Noh Theatre. Led by London-based Noh performer Sakurako Tanaka\, Sara Noh Theatre explores ways of making traditional Japanese performing arts accessible and meaningful to contemporary audiences. Sakurako has performed and delivered workshops at the British Museum and other cultural and educational institutions across the UK. Kettering Kendo Club will also present an exciting live demonstration of kendo\, showcasing the power\, precision and discipline of this traditional Japanese martial art. The demonstration will explore how skilled sword techniques\, focused movement and respect come together within the practice of kendo. Visitors will also have the opportunity to try kendo for themselves and experience an introduction to this historic martial art. \nPAID WORKSHOPS\nTwo separately ticketed workshops will also be available during Japan Fest Northampton. These workshops are not included with general admission and must be booked for an additional charge.\nArtist JowyB will lead a Manga Drawing Class\, giving participants the opportunity to learn the basics of drawing manga characters while developing useful creative techniques and creating their own artwork.\nAdults can also explore the world of Japan’s most famous traditional drink during a Sake Tasting workshop led by drinks expert Samuel Boulton. The guided experience will help participants develop their understanding and appreciation of sake. Spaces for the Manga Drawing Class and Sake Tasting are limited\, and advance booking is recommended. \nJapanese Street Food\nFood of Japan will bring a selection of authentic Japanese dishes and refreshments to the festival.
