DESCRIPTION:A grand 54 mile tour of Northamptonshire’s beautiful countryside! \nThis circular route will take you through an area renowned as the second garden of England – OK Kent\, you beat us to first place! Along the way\, you will enjoy 54-miles of incredible scenery\, country trails\, roads and towpaths. \nThe route passes through the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside\, including two stunning country parks\, Salcey Forest\, the Grand Union Canal and 21 pretty villages and towns. It winds its way along parts of the Nene Way\, the Midshires Way and the Northampton Round.

SUMMARY:Shires and Spires Ultra
DESCRIPTION:A five-distance circular event that has something for everyone. The event features a mixture of trails and roads over 10k (roads)\, half-marathon\, three-quarter marathon (new in 2025 for anti clockwise!)\, marathon and ultra marathon distances. \nAll the race options start and finish at Naseby Village Hall\, nestled at the heart of the quaint village of Naseby – made famous as the home of the Battle of Naseby in 1645\, a major scuffle during the English Civil War. \nNaseby is a fantastic central location\, with easy access to the A14\, M1 and M6. From there\, the route takes runners across the Northamptonshire countryside\, with the multi-terrain marathon and ultra taking them past a host of country houses. Expect to see Holdenby House\, Cottesbrooke\, and Althorp – the home of the Spencer family and final resting place of Princess Diana.

Run past history\, test your limits\, and celebrate the incredible spirit of Northampton.\nWhether you’re an experienced runner or taking on your first race\, you’ll feel the community cheering you on every step of the way. \nRace Categories \nThe Half Marathon \nStarting in the historic Market Square\, a half-marathon loop around England’s largest town\, running downhill over South Bridge and following the line of the river past Northampton’s three main sporting grounds: Sixfields stadium (football)\, Franklin’s Gardens (rugby) and The County Ground (cricket)\, through three beautiful parks\, passing through the modern University campus. Then up into the historic town centre to finish back at the Market Square.
