DESCRIPTION:Join us for our summer Craft Club – and this time the theme is badgers and their woodland friends. On Wednesday 12th August\, prebook onto one of our 2 crafting sessions where you will have the choice to create lots of brilliant badger themed crafts\, including: \n– A woodland diorama\, featuring your favourite woodland animals\, including badgers of course!\n– Use the power of the sun to create a woodland leaf work of art.\n– Make you very own woodland mammal identification guide\n– Fold an origami badger\, fox\, pine marten or squirrel.\nThis event is suitable for children aged 3+.\nParking is not included\, usual tariffs apply. SUMMARY:Introduction to Corn Dolly Crafting
DESCRIPTION:In this introductory workshop you will learn the traditional craft of corn dolly making\, a heritage skill rooted in the rhythms of the harvest and practiced across Britain and Europe for hundreds\, even thousands of years. You will explore how these beautiful woven forms were traditionally created from the final sheaf of the harvest\, believed to hold the spirit of the crop through the winter and ensure fertility and a successful harvest the following year. \nYour workshop will begin with an introduction to the history\, cultural significance and regional variations of corn dollies\, before moving on to practical instruction. \nGuided by course leader Beckie Pallitt of Windhover Crafts\, you will learn the foundational techniques needed to create your own corn dolly inspired by traditional forms\, and you will be supported step-by-step\, developing skills in handling and preparing the straw\, shaping\, and binding. \nThis workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with an endangered rural craft and gain insight into traditions that have been passed down through generations. By the end of the course\, you will take home your own handcrafted corn dollys along with the knowledge to continue practicing this rewarding skill. The course itself takes place in and around the purpose built oak framed craft barn at Stanwick Lakes which is managed by Rockingham Forest Trust as an environmental charity. \nAbout the tutor\nBeckie has been practising many crafts since an early age\, but recently took up teaching them as a way to pass on her knowledge and enthusiasm. \nShe has an interest in both traditional and contemporary crafts and believes strongly that everyone has a creative streak\, it just needs some encouragement to shine and so offers a relaxing session where you can learn new skills and come away with something beautiful made by you. \nThe course is suitable for beginners\, with no prior experience required. All materials and tools will be provided.\n16+ welcome with a fee-paying supervising adult. \nParking is included in the ticket price.

Learn core basketry skills while creating an impressive large willow flower – Perfect for walls\, fences\, patios\, or interior displays. \nThis course is especially valuable for beginners who want to build confidence before moving into basketry. \nYou’ll start by making a traditional slath\, just as you would when beginning a basket. Into this\, you’ll weave the flower’s centre\, gaining essential understanding of space\, control\, and tension. \nFrom there\, you’ll add petals in a style of your choice\, braid a strong stem\, and use a figure-of-eight weave to form expressive leaves. \nThis workshop brings together multiple foundation weaving techniques in one rewarding project – an excellent step towards more advanced work. \nParking is included in the ticket price.

SUMMARY:Pond Dipping - Every Tuesday (August)
DESCRIPTION:Join our rangers for a pond dipping session this summer! \nUsing nets\, trays and magnifying glasses and guided by one of our rangers\, come and discover the creatures that live in the ponds at Stanwick Lakes! After a safety briefing and an introduction to the creatures we’re likely to find\, we’ll head to the pond dipping platform where you will be given a pond dipping kit! The Ranger will be on hand with identification keys to help you work out which creatures you have caught as well as to share knowledge about the pond ecosystem and the many species that call it home. \nSessions last approx. 30 minutes and a responsible adult must be present throughout. \nMeet at the Ranger Cabin 5 mins before your chosen ticketed start time. \nPlease bring appropriate footwear and clothing (including sun hats) and sun cream – it can be hot on the dipping platforms!
