DESCRIPTION:A Celebration of African\, Caribbean\, Black Culture and Creativity \nThis autumn\, Royal & Derngate is proud to host AfroFest\, a brand new festival bringing together the very best of African\, Caribbean and Black culture and creativity right here in Northampton town centre. \nTaking place on Friday 11 September\, AfroFest will fill the theatre’s foyer spaces from 2pm with stalls\, exhibitions\, talks\, networking and cultural food vendors\, before the evening opens up with live performances from a variety of artists on the Royal stage from 5.30pm. \nIn partnership with the Royal & Derngate team\, the festival is a celebration of Black excellence and an open invitation to the whole community. \n“It’s about creating a bridge\, an opportunity for African\, Caribbean and Black communities to see themselves reflected in the theatre\, while inviting people from every background to celebrate and learn together.” Banke Adetumbi \nAfroFest takes place ahead of the world premiere of Inua Ellams‘ epic new play Once Upon a Time in Sokoto\, which takes to the Royal stage from Monday 28 September.
