Northampton is a town steeped in history, and its architecture tells stories that span centuries. Recently, as part of their Heritage Open Day's event, visitors to the Guildhall were invited to vote for their favourite heritage buildings in Northampton and the results reveal a deep affection for the town’s rich and varied built environment.

A striking landmark on the skyline, this towering structure is both a feat of engineering and a symbol of innovation. At a staggering 418 feet, it is now the largest abseil tower in the world!

St. Peter's Church, Marefair

While the top five stood out, several other buildings were also highly regarded by voters:

  • Church of the Holy Sepulchre – A rare round church with links to the Crusades, its unique design and historical significance make it a standout.

  • Guildhall Annexe – Often overlooked, this extension complements the grandeur of the main Guildhall and adds depth to its civic presence.

  • St Giles Church – A peaceful and elegant parish church with a rich history and beautiful stained glass.

  • The Old Savoy – A nostalgic treasure, this former cinema is now a lively venue for entertainment and community events.

  • Sessions House – A stately former courthouse, its imposing façade and classical design evoke the grandeur of Northampton’s legal past.
