Grafton Regis: 1,000 Years in 100 Minutes

May 9 @ 14:30 - 16:30

On Saturday May 9th, experience the dramatic history of the tiny south Northamptonshire village of Grafton Regis. The past comes to life in a leisurely walk beginning at 2.30pm at the Village Hall, then on to the atmospheric Church of St Mary the Virgin. In the Hall, en route and in the Church, meet famous and infamous characters linked to Grafton, in costume, including Elizabeth Woodville, the White Queen, and other Woodvilles, Richard III, Henry VIII and some of his wives, Cardinal Wolsey, and Elizabeth I. You’ll also hear the tragic story of Lady Crane, the tenant of Grafton House (formerly Henry VIII’s palace) when it was destroyed during a Civil War siege; an account of the mystery of the Grafton Portrait (the earliest likeness of Shakespeare?); and why members of the FitzRoy family, Dukes of Grafton, are commemorated in the Church. And then back to the Hall for tea and cakes.
Booking is essential. The cost is £11.50 per head, including refreshments, for adults; £5.00 for under 16s; and under 5s free. For further information and to book, contact Keith on 0770 499 4977 or email keith.harry@btinternet.com
