Catanger Llamas star in The Thursday Murder Club film!
Lights, Camera, Llama!
Discover how the boys at Catanger Llamas trotted from tranquil Northamptonshire fields to the silver screen! We chat with Sarah from Catanger Llamas about life with llamas, behind-the-scenes film moments, and their starring role in The Thursday Murder Club.

Which of your llamas were involved in the film, and do they have any standout personalities?
On the first day of filming for the scene with Celia Imrie, we took Barnaby, Emoji, Indigo and Gino. Gino being the teenager of the group got a bit bored towards the end (typical teenager) so for the second day on set, with the drone shot at the end we replaced Gino with old man Fudge who was amazing and really enjoyed his day out. Our oldest man on the farm, he is now 23!
How did Catanger Llamas end up being part of The Thursday Murder Club movie?
Mainly because our llamas are so well behaved and trained to deal with lots of different scenarios. Our llamas have done lots of TV and promotional work in the past and we have done work for specific companies that hire animals for TV and film work and we are their ‘go to’ llama film stars!
What was it like seeing your llamas on a film set? Were they naturals in front of the camera?
It makes us very proud when we see our llamas on set, they were super chilled and take everything in their stride. Being naturally very inquisitive animals they do enjoy going to different places. We only had to get them used to seeing the large cameras and the HUGE drone! But they handled it like absolute pros.
Were there any funny or unexpected moments during filming?
When we were asked if our llamas were happy with a drone near them, I assumed this would be a normal size drone. When we arrived on set for the drone shot at 5am for a beautiful sunrise, they showed us the drone and it was ENORMOUS… a drone on steroids with a large camera attached to it and very noisy. We had a trial run with the llamas and they were completely cool as cucumbers, took one look at it and then carried on chilling. We were so proud of them and it made for a lovely shot.
Do you think they enjoyed the spotlight?
Absolutely! They were treated like royalty on set. It’s a good job they don’t know how famous they now are as Emoji might start becoming even more of a diva than he already is.
What does it mean to you to have your llamas featured in such a high-profile production?
It is great as we are a very small business and since covid, leisure and tourism activities have really been hit hard, so I hope it just plants a little ‘llama seed’ in peoples minds for any future day out ideas. And to know that our llamas behave beautifully and are well trained.
For those who haven’t visited yet – what can people expect from a visit to Catanger Llamas?
We run a llama trekking and breeding farm (yes, you get to see babies too!) near Towcester, Northamptonshire. We offer an ‘on farm’ trek or ‘half day experience’ where you will become an expert in all things llama, buddy up with an endearing companion and meet the rest of the herd. We have a visitors centre and you are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy after your stay. We also offer on site accommodation, where you can enjoy a ‘llama sleepover’ in our Gypsy Caravan or Shepherds Hut at the farm.
Where can people follow your llamas’ adventures or book a visit?
You can book with us through our website and contact me (Sarah) – I am very old school and like to speak with people via email or phone when booking 😊 You can also follow all the llama antics on our social media, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok by searching Catanger Llamas.
