About Elton Hall
Elton Hall has been home to the Proby family since 1660. It is an enchanting house that has evolved throughout the centuries, culminating in a fascinating mix of styles. Every room is packed with magnificent treasures – antique furniture and a superb collection of fine paintings. These include works by 15th century Old Masters, to remarkable 19th century works by Landseer, Millais and Alma-Tadema and family portraits by Reynolds and Gainsborough. Each generation has collected books and there are three libraries containing over 10,000 books. One of the most remarkable is Henry VIII’s prayer book with inscriptions by him and his three children.
The formal gardens have been lovingly restored over the last 40 years. Recognised as an RHS Partner Garden and winner of the Historic Houses Garden of the Year Judges’ Choice Award in 2021, they contain billowing flower borders set between immaculately cut hedges. Topiary and the Gothic Orangery, with its Mediterranean garden, are firm favourites with visitors. Elton Hall is also available for weddings and event hire – for more information, please contact their Events Office.
