About Northampton and Lamport Railway

The Northampton & Lamport Railway (NLR) is a steam and heritage diesel tourist railway in the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside. We are located just 5 miles from Northampton we are within easy reach of the motorway network. The NLR follows the alignment of the old Northampton to Market Harborough line, which closed in 1981. Today there is a running line that is approximately 1½ miles long and one station, at Pitsford and Brampton.

Running parallel with the railway is the Brampton Valley Way (BVW), a 14-mile linear park from Northampton to Market Harborough (along the whole of the old railway line). The BVW provides a lovely easy flat walk (or cycle) through the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside, as well as a great vantage point to see the trains running past! It makes a great addition to any visit. The NLR is run purely by volunteers.
