About St Mary the Virgin Church

There are 3 listed medieval buildings to be found in the grounds of St Mary’s – Chantry Chapel, St Mary’s itself, and the Bede House. The Chantry Chapel was formally a school before becoming a place of worship.

St Mary’s is unique in having an double aisle, alongside the Lady Chapel and a leather alter screen made in honour of Northamptonshire’s shoe makers. The Bede House was built by Archbishop Henry Chiclele to house 12 poor men. The original fireplace is still used, and hanging inside the hall are several tapestries explaining the life of it’s founder.

St Mary’s is open every day 10am-4pm. A coffee morning is held every Thursday in church when the Chantry Chapel and Bede House are also open should you wish to see inside. Additionally there is a coffee morning in the Bede House on the last Saturday of the month, 9.30am-12.30pm. A free organ recital is held in church at 11.30am every last Saturday.

The award winning grounds are maintained by the Friends of St Marys.
