Layers, Scars & Stone Memories

September 20 @ 10:00 - 16:00
Free

This year, The Holy Sepulchre are exploring the theme: Layers, Scars, and Memories Carved in Stone.

Over 900 years old, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is rich with physical traces of the past. Cracks, marks, changes in stone , all these “scars” tell a story of a building shaped by time, faith, and community.

Topics include:
Architecture: Layers, Scars, and Stone Memories

From bullet holes to weathered steps, explore the hidden signs of a building that has witnessed war, worship, and wonder.

Design: Meaning, Mystery, and Purpose

Is the church round so the devil has nowhere to hide? Or is it a symbol of eternity? Discover how religious belief shaped the building and how architecture, in turn, shapes belief.

They’ve selected some of their favourite hidden features and curious design details that might just make you see churches differently.

Tours will run throughout the day and you can join one that is already running if you arrive late. Self-guided tours run throughout the day.
