Things to do on a Rainy Day in Northamptonshire with the Kids
Northants Families has kindly put together a free guide for families looking for things to do on a rainy day in Northamptonshire! Read on for a local's guide to all of the best indoor activities to keep the whole family entertained - even when there's grey skies!

As a Northamptonshire mum of three, I’ve road-tested most of these — so you can trust that this list is tried, tested and toddler-to-teen approved. The British weather has a habit of changing plans at the last minute, but in Northamptonshire, a rainy day doesn’t have to mean a boring one. Here’s my local guide to some of the best indoor activities for families across the county, whatever the forecast.
Indoor Activity Centres
If you’ve got kids who need to constantly be on the move, Northamptonshire has plenty of options. Flip Out at Rushden Lakes is a firm favourite for trampoline fun, while Gravity has centres in both Northampton and Corby — great for older kids who want more of a challenge.
For climbing, The Pinnacle Centre in Far Cotton offers climbing, caving and bouldering, and their Clip ‘n Climb at Weston Favell is brilliant for younger children. Rock Up at Rushden Lakes is another popular option in a bright, accessible setting.
Prefer something a little more fast-paced? There are laser tag options across the county including Laser Maze in Wellingborough and Lazergeddon (based at Berzerk) in Northampton.
Soft Play
For younger children, soft play is always a winner. Riverside Hub in Northampton is a popular choice with a good-sized play frame and café on site. If you’re looking for something a little more budget-friendly, Berzerk in Northampton is worth a visit — it tends to be cheaper and has plenty to keep little ones entertained.
Other options include 360 Play at Rushden Lakes, Tigers Indoor Play in Kettering, and Belles Playbarn near Towcester if you’re in the south of the county.
Bowling
Bowling is one of those activities that works for every age group. TenPin in Northampton and Hollywood Bowl in Wellingborough are both great options, and Thunderbowl in Kettering combines bowling with mini golf — handy if you want to stretch the day out a little.
Museums
Northamptonshire has a brilliant museum scene. Silverstone Museum is a must if you have any Formula 1 fans in the family — it’s interactive, impressive, and genuinely exciting for kids of all ages.
For free options, Northampton Museum and Art Gallery is a great shout — it houses one of the largest collections of footwear in the world, which sounds niche but is oddly fascinating. Abington Park Museum is also free and set within a beautiful park.
The Canal Museum at Stoke Bruerne is a hidden gem — the interactive displays bring the history of Britain’s canals to life, and there’s a lovely towpath walk alongside Blisworth Tunnel when the rain eventually clears.
