Women's Rugby World Cup

We’re so excited that the Women’s Rugby World Cup is heading to Northamptonshire this year!

Already smashing records as the fastest-selling edition of the tournament ever, with more than 220,000 tickets sold to date, Franklins Gardens sees the likes of England, Samoa, New Zealand, and many other national teams clash for the title of world champion.

With just over eight months to go until the opening match between England and the USA at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on 22 August, the continued strong interest in the Women’s Rugby World Cup has led to ballots for high-demand fixtures, including England’s pool matches at Franklins Gardens. The surge in demand ensures that this is largest sports event in the UK, hosted across eight cities, and is also on track to be the biggest and best Women’s Rugby World Cup in history.

Six matches in total are being held in the Northamptonshire stadium, with the first being Ireland v Japan on Sun 24th August 2025. This is an incredible achievement for Northamptonshire and has boosted our county onto the world stage - not just in sports, but also in the tourism industry. The World Cup trophy has been on show in various locations throughout Northampton such as the Royal & Derngate and Northampton Museum & Art Gallery, allowing customers and sports fans to not only see a piece of sporting history, but explore the local area and boost footfall as well.

Events like this bring significant benefits to not just Northampton, but Northamptonshire as a whole county, attracting external visitors, supporting local businesses, and showcasing our county on an international stage.
