World Gin Day in Northamptonshire

World Gin Day in Northamptonshire

Happy World Gin Day! Today is an excuse to kick back and relax with an alcoholic beverage - but why not make it a local Northamptonshire gin? We've spoken with two main distilleries in the county about the drinks they produce...

Warner's Distillery:

We're raising a glass to nature’s finest — handcrafted right here in Harrington at Warner’s Distillery, the most sustainable gin brand around.

Whether you’re into the ultimate Gin & tonic of Warner’s London Dry with a splash of Mediterranean tonic, or a delicious Warner’s Rhubarb Gin with one third of the bottle made with rhubarb juice, perfectly paired with ginger ale.

And here’s the best bit...

This weekend only, purchase a bottle of Warner’s from their website and you’ll receive 2 midweek tickets to one of their unforgettable distillery tours at Falls Farm!

To make gin so delicious, you’ve got to get your hands dirty. Warner’s hand-pick and harvest fistfuls of farm-grown ingredients, cramming their gin with the fresh tastes of the British countryside. Join them for an immersive 90-minute tour on their family farm in Harrington, where they distill epic drinks in their 250 year old barn, in harmony with nature.

You will be met by a member of the Warner’s team with a drink on arrival, who will take you on a journey of taste and discovery. To end the day, you will have exclusive access to our farm shop, with 15% off everything. They love sharing our home and stories with you and can’t wait to see you for a G&T in the beautiful British countryside!

🍃 Step into the heart of their working farm;
🍯 Meet the bees, botanicals and hedgerows behind every bottle;
🚜 Discover how Warner’s make gin with nature, not just in it;
🥂 And enjoy a tasting surrounded by the rolling Northamptonshire hills!

Wharf Distillery:

Wharf Distillery, an independent small-batch copper-pot distillery are producing a range of exciting spirits and liqueurs from their location in Towcester. They are one of England's smallest whisky distilleries and distil Apple Brandy from locally sourced apples. They also have a range of Single Malts, Gin, Vodka, Rum and Liqueurs, all crafted by hand to create the highest quality spirits.

In 2017 they created their first gin Safine Drenc (Anglo-Saxon for juniper drink), a Northamptonshire gin influenced by botanicals growing locally as well as from their spiritual home of North Norfolk. Their subsequent gins take inspiration from the botanicals that grow in specific areas around the distillery and their current home in Northamptonshire.

They use a traditional process for distilling their own gin, all of which is single shot, copper pot distilled. They also don’t run the still at full speed, preferring to give a greater dwell time to optimise the contact the liquid has with the copper. They like to have fun with their botanical selection and are heavily influenced by what grows locally. The gins are described as concept gins. That is to say their taste reflects the location after which they are named: so earthy and piney for the forest gin (Old Silson - Silverstone Gin), and floral and citrusy for the watermeadow gin (Lactodorum - Towcester Gin).

Visitors to the distillery won’t get a potted tour, they will get a tour from the founder tailored to their own particular spirit of choice. The tour usually starts with the guest’s drink of choice whilst listening to a brief history of Wharf followed by an introduction to the range, then into the distilling room to meet the stills. Describing the processes will be as detailed as the group demands and the tour will end in the Distillery Shop and Bar to try any number of the range. Tours run once or twice a month throughout the year.
